Remedy 1839-1: Watermelon Seed Tea
 
DESCRIPTION
    This is a a mild tea to stimulate kidney activity.  Reading 1839-1 was given for an individual with kidney stones.

PHARMACOLOGY
    Unknown.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE
    Watermelon seed tea is a diuretic recommended in the Cayce readings, particularly as a stimulant to cleanse and purify the kidneys and bladder.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
    No known contraindications.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
    The dosage of watermelon seed tea may vary depending upon the specific condition.  In reading 1839-1, for a person with kidney stones, the dosage was "two ounces ... every four hours ...until there is the relaxation to the system."
    For less severe situations, here are some general quidelines for using watermelon seed tea::

  • Mix one teaspoon of crushed watermelon seed to a pint (or about a pinch to a teacup) of boiling water;
  • Steep for about 15 minutes;
  • Take once a week or oftener as need for symptomatic relief.  Some readings advised that it was best taken in small quantities several times a day rather than a larger amount taken once a day.
  • If practical, the tea should be made fresh for each use.
  • If the tea cannot be made fresh for each administration, here are some suggestions for storage and use:
    • Keep refrigerated for not more than two or three days;
    • Keep the tea is a tight container;
    • Warm the tea when it is taken.


CAYCE QUOTE ON FORMULA 1839-1

    It would be well for there to be taken a mild tea made from crushed or ground watermelon seed.  The proportions would be about a teaspoonful of the ground seed to a pint of water, allowed to steep as ordinary tea.
