Edgar Cayce (1887 - 1945) was an intuitive diagnostician who gave psychic readings on a wide variety of topics with over 9,000 focusing specifically on health problems.  Although many of the early Cayce readings were not recorded, over 14,000 were stenographically transcribed and have been preserved by the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  A CD-ROM containing the Cayce readings is available from A.R.E. Press.
 
    Recognizing the need for confidentiality, each reading is assigned a number corresponding to the person or group requesting the information.  The identifying number is followed by another number designating the sequence of the reading.  For example, a reading cited as 182-6 indicates that this is the 6th in a series of readings for an individual or group designated as 182.

Q. How can I overcome susceptibility to infections such as colds, influenza, etc.?
A. As we have just indicated, by keeping the body alkaline. Only in acids do colds attack the body. (3248-1)

Q. What causes colds? Can you give me a formula or method of preventing them, or curing them? A. Keep the body alkaline! Cold germs do not live in an alkaline system! They do breed in any acid or excess of acids of any character left in the system. (1947-4)

Q. What can I do to build resistance against head colds?
A. Keep the normal acidity and alkalinity, by occasionally taking the test with litmus paper - both from the urine and from the spittle. Use the blue litmus, see? (1100-20)
 

Q. How long should the body keep the citrus fruit diet?
A. Until at least there shows that there is - through the test in the urine and in the blood - a nearer alkaline reaction; or it may be tested through the mouth, with the litmus and the salivary reactions. (760-15)

... it would be well that the body check on itself occasionally as to the alkalinity, or acidity of the system. Check with litmus paper, both the saliva and the urine, for acids. When there is the tendency towards the acids, then alkalize with lemons, especially, or lemon and orange... Do it, say, once a week or the like. Don't take an excess of the alkalines unless there is indicated an acid reaction. (1100-27)
 

    From EVERY condition that is of true [idiopathic] epileptic nature there will be found a cold spot or area between the lacteal duct and the caecum. (567-4)

    That's what is meant by keeping COORDINATION between the plexus of one ganglia or center and those in another, that the ATTUNEMENT between same is such that their rate of pulsation, their rate of vibration, coordinate one to another. How may we use same? Well, these are not osteopathic terms, but there has been perfected or used in the chiropractic association a thermometer, or a gadget that run along the spine shows WHEN they coordinate one with another, see?     As we find, while the body is in the developing stages, the sources of the conditions to which the body becomes allergic in the digestive system should be looked for - that deal with all migraine headaches. (3326-1)

    As in most conditions of the nature of migraine or so-called headaches, the cause is in the colon - where there are patches of adhesions of fecal forces to the walls of the intestine, causing activities that come in general cycles. These may come at times regularly, almost so that you could set this by your clock at times; for it is as the regularity of the system itself.         We would regularly use high colonic irrigations; not attempting to remove all the disturbance here at one treatment but gradually. (3630-1)

    We find that these began some time back when there was poor eliminations manifested in the body. While some conditions have been bettered at times these have left in portions of the colon the disturbing conditions that constantly - when there is an activity of the body on the feet or moving about to any extent - cause what has been termed migraine headache or pressures upon the 5th nerve; so as to cause, as it were, all characters of nerve tension through head and face, teeth - or in gums, sinus, soft tissue of face and head.     Here we find some complications - the effects of or the beginning of migraine headaches. Most of these, as in this case, begin from congestions in the colon. These cause toxic conditions to make pressures on the sympathetic nerve centers and on the cerebrospinal system. And these pressures cause the violent headaches, and almost irrational activities at times.
    These, as we find, should respond to colonic irrigations. But first, we would x-ray the colon, and we will find areas in the ascending colon and a portion of the transverse colon where there are fecal forces that are as cakes.
    There will be required several full colonic irrigations, using salt and soda as purifiers for the colon; and we will find that these conditions will be released. (3400-2)
 

    Here we find conditions advanced in multiple sclerosis, so-called, or the inability of the digestive forces and the glands in the liver (in the right lobe) to supply those tendencies needed, or energies needed, to supply the return force in nerve energy. (3124-1)

    First, there are those effects of the alteration or changes in the glandular forces of the body. Then, combined with this, a very bad subluxation in the lumbar and sacral area.
    Then, added to that, a touch of condition with the liver and the assimilations that borders very close to that of multiple sclerosis. This is a whitening in centers or in spots of the liver. (2997-1)

    This has reached the stage where there is a softening, rather than hardening, of the lobe of the liver. These, then, are the more serious..

Q.  Is this multiple sclerosis or a deep brain tumor?
A.  Multiple sclerosis - not a brain tumor. (5238-1)

    We find this is represented in such manifestations that have caused the glandular forces within the activity of the assimilating forces to be involved in the general disturbance.
    Thus there is included the liver, spleen, pancreas, and the activity of the kidneys. Or, as termed by some, there is inflammation or dis-ease in the right lobe of the liver.
    These activities as we find, of the multiple sclerosis nature, are taking out of the system such coordinations in the lumbar, sacral, and the coccyx end of the spine, and affecting these areas to such an extent as to take away the stamina - or the gray matter. (3114-1)
 

    The blood supply is high in the pressure. This is produced in the greater part by pressures that exist in the transverse and descending colon . (3367-1)

Q. Please give me the cause and cure for the so-called psoriasis with which I am troubled.
A. The cause is the thinning of the walls of the intestinal system, which allows the escaping of poisons - or the absorption of same by the muco-membranes which surround same, and becomes effective in the irritation through the lymph and emunctory reactions in the body." (289-1)

    In this body we find there has been the after effect from a condition existent some time back, when there was an attack of what is commonly called flu. This at the time settled or produced greater inflammation through the alimentary canal, and the inflammation has caused the areas, through which lymph flows for the colon activity to have a form of colitis.     The activity on this is not only for the destruction of live tubercule tissue, but it acts as an antiseptic for all irritated areas; also giving activity to cellular force of the corpuscle itself. It acts as a stimuli to the circulation, then, recharging each cell as it passes through areas so affected by the radiation of the gases from this fluid itself. (3176-1)

    We find that this [leukemia] may be materially aided for this body, if there will be the use of the blood of the body combined with Iodine - Tincture of; one c.c., - this at the time of the next transfusion given back into the body. When these are used, it will be found that there will be the ability to reduce the percentage of such cases more than fifty percent. (2208-1)
GOLD THERAPY FOR NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS

    We begin, then, giving INTERNALLY, and through a vibratory force, those forms of soda and gold, internally, that rejuvenate the whole system, as to re-propagation of nerve energy. (173-1)

    Instead of using so much insulin; this can be gradually diminished and eventually eliminated entirely if there is used in the diet one Jerusalem artichoke every other day. (4023-1)
 

    Any element that is an abrasion to the epidermis may be healed by such - see? Those even where they have been in such a condition as to be impossible under other circumstances to be healed, used with the mercury light and the carbon ash will respond to such treatments. (165-7)

    . the juices of the Plantain weed and the keeping away from certain food values - help may be brought even to many individuals suffering with the same [sarcoma]. (3387-1)

    There are subluxations in the second and third dorsals. These deflect the circulation of nerve supply, and thus the blood to the bronchi and trachea. This causes a bronchial asthmatic disturbance. (3211-3)

    In the lung forces: Here we find, in the cerebrospinal system there is in the dorsal area a subluxation that has gradually - through the impulse created there - impoverished the flow of the blood, or impulse. Not so much the blood; at times this overflows, but this produces then - by this lack of impulse - a spasmodic reaction of an asthmatic nature, either from cold or heat, too much sweets or too much of pollen or dust, too much of any of those influences that will make for an attack upon the sympathetic systems through the mucous membranes of the throat and nasal passages and to the bronchi and larynx and lungs.     When there are the recurrent conditions of the spasmodic reaction, or the asthmatic reaction, we would take a grain of Calcidin. (861-1)

    Cancer of the uterus or of the womb - these conditions will be found to respond to the Carbon Ash. (1800-30)

Q. Should I have another operation for ingrown toenails? Can these be cured?
A. Why not remove them by the use of a little soda and spirits of camphor? Each evening put a little under the nail, - it will remove them and no bad effects! (2414-1)

    . those who would eat two to three almonds each day need never fear cancer. (1158-31)

    Those who would take a peanut oil rub each week need never fear arthritis. (1158-31)

Q. Will Tim cure or dry up these hemorrhoids without any other action?
A. Consistently used, it will not only remove the cause but remove the hemorrhoids. (257-200)

    Over the areas of the varicose veins we would apply the Mullein stupes. If the dried Mullein is used, this may be used in a very strong Mullein water. Do not attempt to have these veins removed by surgery. (3523-1)

Q. What is the lyden [Leydig] gland and where located?
A. Lyden [Leydig] meaning sealed; that gland from which gestation takes place when a body is created through coition, or inception, through conception of two bodies meeting in creating a body. Located in and above the gland called genital glands, see? In the male, above the glands corresponding to testes. In the female, that above gland responding to testes in the male. Here in THIS particular case, near the size of a wren's egg [schizophrenia]. Nominally should be about the size of a small pea. (3997-1)

    Those conditions as are prenatal in their effect, through the activity of forces made manifest in a physical body, are beginning to become in the manner of producing within the system an element as of its OWN resuscitation, living upon the life OF the body-physical. That's a very good description of cancer, isn't it? for it IS malignant in its nature, and has already attacked the mammary glands, and is going to be rather fast in its operation unless there are means taken as to check same. We would give then, THESE, as we find, would be the better corrective measures for this body, were there a serum made from that as is called the "wolve" [wolf] in the beef or the hare, at this season, and injections made in that region where the blood supply to the system is most effective.     As to the elements of the blood itself, these we find in their divisions - if they are separated - show the lack of that urea that makes for the creating of coagulation where used tissue has been eliminated for or from the system. (434-1)

    The BLOOD SUPPLY shows the lack of sufficient red blood, owing to the system producing such quantities of the leucocyte and white blood (lymph and the urea in same) to form coagulation . (596-1)

    Begin was early as possible with the Animated Ash to make for the activity of more oxygen in the blood . (1045-1)

Q. What is cause and cure for the psoriasis conditions on my body and scalp?
A. This, as we find, has been given - as to what would cure and relieve the condition. With the present physical condition, of course, it is a great deal better that these manifest themselves in such a manner, than that they be kept in! As is known, psoriasis is - itself - an infectious condition that affects the emunctory and lymph circulation, and causes an improper coordination of the eliminating forces of the system, as in this body. Would this not be thrown off in the epidermis, or the lymph and capillary circulation, with this particular condition of this body, the intestinal tract would be full of pinholes; or, were it to go to the lungs, there would be tuberculosis; were it to go to the valves of the heart, it would be heart trouble - as would be called; were it to go to the liver, it would be cirrhosis of the liver; were it to go to the spleen, it would be a hardening of one end of it; were it to go to the brain, it would be softening of the brain; were it to go to the glands of the throat or thyroids, it would be that of goitre; or were it to settle in some other portion - were it to SETTLE - it would become a tumor of some character or nature.     Pathologically we find there are those adhesions in the lacteal duct area as associated or connected with the pubic centers in this body. These cause, when there is the digestion or when there are activities of certain elements or environs, what might be called seizures, falling sickness, epilepsy or the contraction or spasmodic condition in the area of the 1st and 2nd cervical, where the emotions through the superficial circulation or the sympathetic and the cerebrospinal system do not coordinate in their entrance to brain reflexes.
